Assessment Methodology

A rigorous, deterministic framework built on research from 12 leading institutions and 10,000+ company implementations.

Design Principles

Deterministic Scoring

All scores are calculated using transparent, rule-based logic. No AI models make scoring decisions—this is your intellectual property, fully auditable.

SME-Specific

Unlike enterprise frameworks, this assessment accounts for resource constraints, smaller teams, and the realities of 1-1,000 employee organizations.

Research-Backed

Synthesizes 12 frameworks including McKinsey, MIT CISR, Gartner, Stanford HAI, BCG, OECD, Cisco, and Accenture research.

Execution-Focused

Built by a practitioner who's led 36 major transformation projects. Focuses on what actually works, not academic theory.

The Five Dimensions

Leadership & Strategy

30% weight

Measures executive engagement, strategic clarity, and resource commitment. BCG research shows deeply engaged leadership is 12× more predictive of AI success than technology readiness.

Questions on leadership AI usage, strategy documentation, and executive sponsorship.

Data & Technology Foundation

25% weight

Evaluates data quality, accessibility, and infrastructure readiness. Poor data causes 73% of AI project failures—this dimension identifies gaps before you invest.

Questions on data quality, system integration, and cloud infrastructure.

Skills & Culture

20% weight

Assesses team AI literacy and organizational change readiness. 63% of implementations fail due to human factors, not technology. Culture trumps tools.

Questions on employee AI skills, change receptivity, and experimentation culture.

Execution Readiness

15% weight

Measures ability to identify viable use cases and move from pilot to production. 87% of projects never scale—this evaluates your execution discipline.

Questions on use case identification, current AI usage, and implementation track record.

Resource Commitment

10% weight

Examines budget allocation and decision-making agility. Structured investment with ROI expectations correlates with 3× higher success rates.

Questions on AI budget, decision speed, and investment governance.

How Scoring Works

  1. 1

    Individual Question Scoring

Each question uses a 1-5 maturity scale with behavioral descriptions. No guessing—you select the statement that matches your current state.

  2. 2

    Dimension Calculation

Dimension scores are the average of their questions, converted to 0-100 scale. Simple, transparent math.

  3. 3

    Weighted Overall Score

Your overall score is the weighted sum of dimension scores. Weights reflect research on what most predicts success.

  4. 4

    Tier Classification

Your score maps to one of five tiers: Unaware (0-20), Exploring (21-40), Experimenting (41-60), Operationalizing (61-80), or Leading (81-100).

Benchmarking Data

Your results are compared against three benchmarks:

Industry Average

Scores from companies in your sector (Manufacturing, Technology, Healthcare, etc.). Based on Eurostat 2025 data covering 150,000+ firms.

Company Size Average

Scores from organizations with similar employee counts. Acknowledges that 50-person companies face different constraints than 500-person companies.

Global SME Average

Aggregate baseline from SMEs worldwide. Currently 51/100 based on synthesis of McKinsey, Stanford HAI, and OECD studies.
